Farewell Jamie

Attic Books would like to wish a fond farewell to one our favourite patrons, poets and local personalities, James Reaney. The editor of Alphabet magazine, and multiple Governor General Award winner, Reaney was known to many in the London area as the author of the Donnelly trilogy, a series of plays based on the Donnellys in Lucan. He was a friendly face to see in our store, and we will miss him. Jamie passed away on June 11, 2008.
100 Years of Anne

This June marks 100 years since the publication of Anne of Green Gables. |
Our window display features a grove of trees that Anne would love, painted by Cassandra. We also have mementos from her fictional life and museum quality items depicting the life and times of author Lucy Maud Montgomery.
Included is a signed first edition of Rilla of Ingleside and other collectible editions.
These items belong to a private collection and are not for sale, but we have brought together our Montgomery items for your perusal at the front of the store.
It’s a great time to revisit this Canada classic. Written in 1906, Montgomery stashed the manuscript in a hatbox after numerous rejection letters. She found it again in 1908, and pursued publication a second time.
It was due to her own perseverance and belief in her ability to succeed that we have Anne today, an important marker in many young readers’ lives. If you haven’t read Anne, give it a try, and if you know someone who hasn’t, we have many copies available. |

Muskoka Bookhouse
Grand Opening
Former Attic Books employee, Jason Dickson, opened his new shop on Victoria Day weekend. The Muskoka Bookhouse is located in Bracebridge, Ontario on Manitoba Street. The grand opening took place with great fanfare, and the citizens of Bracebridge danced joyously in the streets to celebrate the arrival of this new retail haven in their beautiful cottage country town. |
